Frequently Asked Questions

What is the S.O.S Committee?

The Save Our Schools Committee, aka SOS is a Municipal Ballot Committee.  We are comprised of concerned Rockland residents that want to see our town and children benefit from a new middle school and a renovated high school.  We have come together because each and everyone of us strongly believe that the school system can not move forward without the needed changes to the high school and a new middle school.

What is a Municipal Ballot Committee?
Our primary function is to inform the residents of Rockland about the condition of the John Roger’s Middle School and the High School and the plans to rectify these problems.  We are here to inform the town what the bottom line will be if Rockland passes a debt exclusion to finance the project.

What is the difference between an Override and a Debt Exclusion?
The basic difference between an override and a debt exclusion is that an override is added to your taxes forever and a debt exclusion only lasts until the debt is paid.  We will have concrete figures once the state determines how much they will cover.  It will cost you money to see this project through but in the long run the benefits to our town and children are immeasurable.

How will this affect my property value?

Given now that the Middle School is in such disrepair, and the High School is in dire need of updating, it is certain to say that it will be difficult for any property owner in the Town of Rockland to sell at a fair market value.
