Yoshino Cherry Blossom in Canada?
I’ve been trying to locate a Yoshino Cherry Blossom (aka Sakura) somewhere in Canada (preferably Ontario) for a long time. I know there are nurseries in the States that carry these trees, but getting them across the border is a tough one, and if possible, it’s expensive.
I know they don’t particularly thrive over here, but I know they can survive. There are some in High Park in Toronto, as well as in Ottawa near the government buildings. I’ve even seen a picture of the Yoshino Cherry Blossom in Vancouver covered in snow! It must be possible to have them in Ontario (near Toronto) and have them survive the winter. I know that there are other varieties (Okame, Kwanzan), but the Yoshino is the one that caught my eye.
Any info is appreciated, such as nurseries in Canada that will ship young trees, or any info about the chances of a Yoshino lasting in southern Ontario. Thanks in advance!
indeed that it’s hard to find cherry blossom in the east coast of CND. All I found is this list of “promising” nurseries. You might want to call them and ask for availability.
