- Only 49 school districts
state-wide received invitations from the Massachusetts School Building
Authority (MSBA) to the feasibility stage. During this stage a
comprehensive study of the project will take place to prepare us for the
final step of construction. Architects, engineers and the school
community will make choices as to the site, the building design and the
educational design during this process. At the end of the process,
taxpayers will have a design and a construction cost to vote on.

- It is actually an architectural and engineering study
- It will look at all aspects of the site: geotechnical, environmental and
hydrological
- It will design the building in consultation with the educational
community
- It will produce schematic drawings that will allow the cost of school
construction to be determined

- The cost is $655,200
- 55% of this is reimbursable from the MSBA
- Cost to the town is $294,840
- One year capital exclusion
- Cost to average taxpayer $45.60 for the one year
- With the library roof coming off the tax rate, “its a wash”

- At the election on April 12, taxpayers will be asked to vote for the
town’s share of the cost of the study
- At Town Meeting there will be an article to vote on
- If funding is approved the town will sign a feasibility study agreement
with the MSBA

- The Building Committee will hire an architect and an Owners Project
Manager (OPM)
- The feasibility study will take 6-9 months
- At the end of the study, a cost for the construction of the new school
will be determined and brought to the taxpayers.
